By inviting all music lovers to participate in the building of this instrument by becoming members or sponsors of the Variable structure Organ manufacturing Society (VSO ), a non-profit organization.

The object of the Society is:

“To promote and intensify artistic- and musical-oriented actions in the field of organ music, in particular by taking part in the manufacture of a new type of instrument, called 'Variable Structure Organ' or 'Jean Guillou’s Organ'; which organ - whose general design, technical characteristics, sound level (comparable to that of a traditional organ), or mobile structure were developed by the famous organist Jean Guillou - is itself likely to revive today’s musical world.”

Abstract:

The organ, ever since it was invented in the 3rd century B.C., has surely been the instrument that has benefited from the most numerous technical and aesthetic innovations: sizes, choice of timbres, modes of transmission, the distribution of pipes, the presence or not of  an organ-case have evolved along with idioms, musical tastes, technical requirements, the choice of materials, the lay out...

Now, whereas the classical, then the romantic and eventually the symphonic organs are well known, oddly enough, there exist but very few instruments that could be called 20th century organs despite the technical means at our disposal nowadays.

Jean Guillou:  The Organ, retrospect, prospect

Could it hence be legitimate, in this day and age, to spend millions to maintain or build in the traditional way instruments that have dwindling audiences?

spacerIf the pipe-organ is to develop, it must meet two requirements:

  • have the same qualities as a great organ built according to the traditional know-how.
  • Conform to a new aesthetics, in particular through its mobility and its ability to be installed anywhere.

The Society for the Manufacture of the Variable Structure Organ has entrusted ORGELBAU KLAIS BONN, the famous German organ-builder, and Jean Guillou with the task of building this new organ.

The final plans have been completed to the smallest detail. The technical feasibility of the project has been studied and successfully tested.
