Jean Guillou's Organ
THE 21st CENTURY ORGAN
The Variable Structure Organ Manufacturing Society has been
created to resume thanks to Jean Guillou’s instrument the evolution
of organ-building that curiously stopped in the 20th century.
“The
organ, ever since it was invented in the 3 rd century B.C., has
surely been the instrument that has benefited from the most numerous
technical and aesthetic innovations: sizes, choice of timbres, modes
of transmission, the distribution of pipes, the presence or not
of an organ-case have evolved along with idioms, musical
tastes, technical requirements, the choice of materials, the lay
out Now whereas the classical, then the romantic and eventually
the symphonic organs are well known, oddly enough, there exist but
very few instruments that could be called 20th century organs despite
the technical means at our disposal nowadays.”
